About Rogue Climate:

Since 2013, Rogue Climate has been building a climate movement in Southern Oregon and the South Coast to achieve solutions to climate change that will result in energy justice, sustainable jobs, and a healthy climate and communities. We have also played a lead organizing role to stop new fossil fuel infrastructure like the Jordan Cove LNG fracked gas export project, move forward local and state clean energy policies, and more. Recently, the South Coast team has been organizing to ensure climate justice solutions for the Coos Bay Estuary, ran a campaign against a destructive state-wide policy, and hosted community listening sessions about offshore wind.  We are committed to working for climate solutions that result in a just transition to renewable energy that benefits rural communities, low-income communities, Latino/a/x, Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.

Qué harás:

As the South Coast Field Organizer at Rogue Climate, you will work with a team of staff and community members to organize communities on the South Coast through campaigns and projects that advance climate justice and communities resilient to the accelerating impacts of climate change. 

• Field Work: Conduct weekly field work, including setting up and leading phone and text banks, canvassing and tabling at community events, and recruiting and training volunteers to participate in field work.
• Growing Community: Organize creative and consistent community meetings and events to recruit and engage community members, especially those most impacted by the issues, in partnership with the South Coast Coordinator.
• Youth Organizing: Develop a South Coast youth action team and support the South Coast youth internship program. Recruit and mentor South Coast internship participants,and support workshop facilitation during annual internship program.
• Implementación de la campaña: Implement local campaigns and projects for renewable energy, transitioning off fossil fuel infrastructure, community resilience, and climate justice.
• Volunteer Training & Support:  Support community members to move into volunteer roles through one-on-ones and training in collaboration with the South Coast Regional Coordinator and Organizing Director. Lead trainings for volunteers on phone banking, text banking, canvassing and tabling.
• Communications: Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator on developing campaign/program media (social media posts, e-blasts, earned media, etc)
  
• Data tracking: Ensure data is collected and entered in a timely and accurate fashion in the Rogue Climate database

Preferred qualifications:

• At least one year of grassroots campus, or campaign-based organizing. 
• A connection to the South Coast and/or experience organizing in rural, coastal, Tribal, or Latino/a/x/e communities.

• Supporting community members on the South Coast to prepare to take action for climate justice solutions at the city, county, and state levels, for example giving public comment at city council meetings. 

Location & Benefits:

This position will be based out of the Rogue Climate office in Coos Bay, Oregon. As a community organizer, you will be expected to work an average of two evenings a week and 1-2 weekend days per month in order to meet the needs of the community. There will be some commuting between community events, field work and meetings required. We practice a 36 hour work week, and our team uses flex time to adjust for additional hours worked week-to-week. You will be provided with both a cell phone and a laptop. This position may require occasional travel.

The salary for this position is $52,500 with a $3,000 Spanish Language Enhancement.
